There are presently four
support groups in Canada: For information on any of
these support groups, please contact the office of the Calgary (Alberta)
Neuropathy Association at (403) 831-2187. The Calgary (Alberta)
Neuropathy Association is a very important endeavour by patients
suffering from any form of neuropathic pain, such as; Peripheral
Neuropathy and Diabetic Neuropathy, who come together to discuss
problems and issues associated with neuropathy. Through these
efforts, community support can be garnered. The group serves as a
channel for continued efforts to help patients with neuropathic
conditions, funnel research questions, and raise public and physician
awareness. The Calgary (Alberta)
Neuropathy Association (originally, Calgary (Alberta) Neuropathy
Support Group) was founded in May 2002 by Val Shaw-Lewis (a sufferer of

this debilitating sensory and/or motor nerve disease, known as
Peripheral Neuropathy, does exist. She wanted to inform anyone who
suffered with any form of neuropathic pain that such a support group is
in existence in southern Alberta, that there is somewhere (or someone)
that patients can turn to for support, care and education and to further
advise of the many resources available within the communities. Support Groups
bring together people with similar problems to share emotional and moral
support as well as practical information. Support Groups
normally fall into two main categories: 1) those led by professional
facilitators, such as; a nurse, social worker or psychologist; and 2)
those led by group members, often called self-help groups. If you would like further
